Canola Oil

Canola Oil

Canola oil is known for its health benefits, high in good fats and low in bad.
It's a healthy, cheaper alternative to olive oil.

Canola oil is processed from a seed-rapeseed. The name "canola" was derived from "Canadian oil, low acid" in 1978.

Canola oil is made at a processing facility by slightly heating and then crushing the seed. Almost all commercial grade canola oil is then refined using hexane.

Health Information

Canola oil is low in saturated fat (less than 7%), is high in monounsaturated fat, and has a beneficial omega-3 fatty acid profile and is recognized by many health professional organizations including the American Dietetic Association and American Heart Association. Canola oil has been given a qualified health claim from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration based on the theory that the absence of saturated fats (consumption of which may cause coronary heart disease) in the oil content makes it a healthy food.

  2. I love how cheap and tasteless canola is - but I keep hearing that it's most derived from GMO's. Have you heard anything?

    1. Hi Jesse, thanks for visiting. I heard that too. Canola is genetically modified. Agricultural engineers that produced canola oil went about it the good, old-fashioned way that we‘ve been genetically modifying plants for hundreds of years. They selectively bred the plants to enhance certain desirable characteristics and suppress others.
